• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I've recently gotten into DMR and have a hospital nearby that is on 2 repeater frequencies that use DMR. I can listen to it using a DMR decoder on my RTL-SDR but i'd like to be able to program the receive frequency into my Anytone 878. I'm not very knowledgeable with DMR yet but when I add a channel it wants a talk group. Would I have to know their "talk group", or can you talk on a DMR repeater without needing a talk group?

You need the color code, time slot and talkgroup ID to talk on a DMR repeater or receive only that talkgroup. Maybe other paramaters too depending on how the repeater is configured. You might need to program that channel in a receive group depending on how your radio works.

Some CCR DMR radios can be programmed to receive all talkgroups on both time slots on a particular frequency without needing to program a receive group, time slot or TGID. I'm not sure if the 878 is like that.

This is a commercial frequency cause receive is 461.7625 and their transmit frequency is 466.7625, which I didn't bother programming in cause I can't transmit on it anyways. Like I said, it's a hospital so I don't think they're working on Brandmeister or TGIF or anything like that so how could you figure out their talk group? color code and time slot would likely be easy to figure out.

My btech 6x2 has a wildcard setting that allows monitoring any talk group or color code on a frequency.. The anytone is a close relative and might have that function.

Now that you mention that, it may be the feature I saw advertised as “promiscuous mode”. Maybe not but I vaguely remember hearing about it.

Be shure, they don't use RAS, because in this case, the station will stay mute.
