Hey everyone,

Happy New Year!

I have a friend who is interested in scanning the 2 meter band on VHF. As i am an public safety scanner I don't monitor VHF very often. Are there any common frequencies that have a good amount of traffic I can point him to. Maybe national calling channels and stuff. Also is there a National Repeater so like you can contact someone in Calgary for example. Any frequencies would be great.

Repeaterbook.com is another good resource. Once you identify repeaters in your area, you can click on the call sign and get the full info on it. https://www.repeaterbook.com/repeaters/index.php?state_id=CA08

As far as a 'national repeater'. Look for repeaters that offer IRLP or Echo Link.

Introducing EchoLink

IRLP and Echolink repeaters aren't usually connected to the internet all of the time, but if you monitor one long enough, you'll eventually hear locals talking to distant stations from around the world.
