Really even ComEd is securing its communications? I used to listen to my area on the Triad system to keep up with the work being done after storms or when they have lines down, etc,.... It was a very good resource for knowing how long I would be in the dark. Even scarier though if the POWER company is securing its radio traffic now, really what hope does our hobby have. Within the next 10 years I bet we will have a hell of a time finding anything besides maybe the air-band in the clear. Even the trains are going to a NXDN Digital format and eventually a trunking system that no one can monitor with a current scanner or two way radio if its trunked. I hate to say it but thanks to things like live streaming audio of radio operations and easy access to information on these systems, I don't expect our hobby has a very long future left. Cook County, Joliet, Naperville, Aurora and now even ComEd all unable to be monitored. Any one else see a trend emerging.
Sorry to hear we lost another agency and a useful one at that,
Bob
