Really even ComEd is securing its communications? I used to listen to my area on the Triad system to keep up with the work being done after storms or when they have lines down, etc,.... It was a very good resource for knowing how long I would be in the dark. Even scarier though if the POWER company is securing its radio traffic now, really what hope does our hobby have. Within the next 10 years I bet we will have a hell of a time finding anything besides maybe the air-band in the clear. Even the trains are going to a NXDN Digital format and eventually a trunking system that no one can monitor with a current scanner or two way radio if its trunked. I hate to say it but thanks to things like live streaming audio of radio operations and easy access to information on these systems, I don't expect our hobby has a very long future left. Cook County, Joliet, Naperville, Aurora and now even ComEd all unable to be monitored. Any one else see a trend emerging.

Sorry to hear we lost another agency and a useful one at that,
Bob

Frankly, we have not been able to listen for a long time anyway. At least in the Chicago Metro area the ComEd system was very quiet even before the switch to the P25 system even after major storms. They were definitely using something else such as Nextel or cellular.

From Odell yesterday I could hear:
109 938.8875
110 938.7125
114 937.9750

The Manville (Livingston County) site 2F0E-005 on the old system was off the air. Are the other sites now off the air? The only 900 MHz Type II control channel I could receive was 935.4125 which is the Seneca Power Plant. A couple months ago when I was there and in Elmhurst I could pick up sites on both the old and new system.

As a retired Com Ed man I got to sit in one of the new rigs with the new radios installed and was told by the crew leader most of the traffic is on cells or MDTs.

I know there were at least a few hundred radios that went through voice testing over the summer with different talk groups. Back then, they were all in the clear. I've only seen a couple of talk groups come up consistently albeit encrypted.

I ran Pro96com on a few sites to get the alternate control channels and adjacent sites. I found Site 007 939.6625 referenced but I don't know where this site is.

If there are sites in the database in the 800 and 900 site number range in your area, please check to see if they are on the air and if so what the site number and control channel is so we can get that updated.
