Has anyone used a COMPACtenna 20m/2m/440 antenna or have thoughts about it? Thinking about installing one in attic. Using a Yaesu FT2D and looking at adding an amplifier.

Thanks,

A 20m antenna that's only 20 inches long? I can't imagine that it performs very well on 20m.

If you search RR you will find a review on the COMPACtenna. I remember the original longer version giving ok performance then it was replaced with the current shorter version and it doesn't work as well.

I've watched a few videos from the designer of this antenna and personally think he knows a little about marketing hype and less about antenna design. I have another one of his inventions and its claims are complete BS.

I believe the antenna in question is a 144/220/440 antenna and not 20 meters..

The eham reviews page has 2 user opinion posts on it that are both 5 stars.. but I wouldn't put much trust in that until you see an item with more than 10 or 20 reviews. Anyone can make a product and have their best friend throw up a couple good comments.

There is more than one antenna listed on the COMPACtenna web site including this one:

Model 20M/2M/440
This is a very small multi-band antenna
that fits the need of Hams
for an antenna that may fit into attic spaces, etc.
yet perform surprisingly well for its 20″ length.
Due to the COMPACtenna patented design
which includes magnetic-field-enhancement,
this antenna achieves uncommonly good results for its extremely short height
and includes HAM Radio 20 Meters, 2 Meters, & 440 operation.

I had no idea. So now I have a question..

At 20 meters, would that be like a 1/64th wave or something?

ALL shortened antennas are a compromise.
........
A 1\4 wave GP will easily outperform a loaded design on any band

If he's using an FT2D, then 20 meters is a moot point anyway. Better off to get a good dual band antenna.

The OP doesn't show a ham license in his profile, although that doesn't mean he still doesn't have one. Assuming the former, what's the portable for?
