I was wondering if it is possible to view all the trunking systems in the continental US by type.

IE...
EDACS..... (X) amount of systems
1. Provoice....(X) amount of systems
2. Aegis capable...........(x) amount of sytems
Motorola..........(x) amount of systems
1. Type 1.....(X) amount of sytems
2. Type 2......( X) amount of systems

Etc, etc........................

I was thinking about trying to track these systems by different type of demographics..... like year it came on line, locality, digital capabilities, etc......

It would be intresting to see what type of trends emerge for different states... like the amount of EDACS system in one state, or grouped into an area, and the like.

I am not sure if this system has it, or if the dynamics of the current database will allow for it, or if anybody has any type of this information, but I would be surely intrested in seeing it.

It is surely is something to ponder. :)

However, the goverment works in very weird ways and buying decisions are largely predicated on money. Therefore, mapping out an x,y chart that would make sense might be out of the question.

This would look really interesting for anyone looking to do a report in the future, and needed statistics to show how trunking systems evolved or which vendor has the largest number of systems in place in any given state.

This is not for an report of any sort to use for anything but maybe some personal gain.

Some but not all the goals I would like to achieve from this are.....
1. Track the trend of types of systems available in, say an given geographical region...local, multi-jurisdictional, or state level.

2. Track the trend of coming systems.....if it appears that in the past 5 years M/A Comm is putting out more systems than Motorola, or has more given contracts for the next couple of years, then that would be an trend of intrest to the scanner hobbyist. Especially if the systems will be digital, or have some type of security (ie...EDACS' ESK).

3. For people looking to buy scanners or moving or traveling to certian areas then the information could be used, as an quick reference to what type of scanner to buy. Use an LTR system for example... Are their any new scanners on the market that can track these reliably.. I know my RS Pro-92 can, but I am not sure about my Pro-95. That as an example. If you were to say an certian state had more LTR systems than anything else I would know I needed an scanner to track those type of systems and then I could go back to the RR database and glean the more pertinent information to program into the scanner.

Those are just an couple of examples, but I am hoping that someone can see the potential of something like this.
With lots of agencies recieving grants from the federal government to bring thier communications sytems up to speed with regards to inter-operability and other issues, then I think that will be important to know which direction these systems might head.

If there would appear to be a big push towards digital capable or compliant systems and we were to lobby scanner manufactures to make an scanner capable of tracking that type of system then it would be good to show that the potential market would exist. Uniden and Radio Shack make good money from scanner sales, and if there was ever a need to prove something, then this could be used also for that purpose.

Maybe I am way off base, but until somebody in the know tells me different then I think it would be an worthwhile cause.
