computer based scanning

what options do i have for computer based scanning? How does it compare pricewise and feature wise compared to a base station or mobile unit?
i've heard of this WinRadio thing, but on their website almost all of the units were around $500, i don't know enough about this stuff to know about the features

Icom PCR1000

I was using a Icom PCR1000 but traded it,,Wish I still had it really..New they cost 500 bucks so its a big chunk of change ..Who knows maybe Icom will make them digital capable and also trunking...that would be a great PC reciever IMO. As they are right now they are a Good scanner/reciiever. Hope that helps..
