Is this a good 10 meter antenna?
Comtek COM-20VA

No. Its a 1/4 wave monopole intended to mount on a pole in the ground with wire radials on the ground. Its just a 1/4 wave ground plane but at ground level with radials on or in the ground which create more loss. And its expensive. Is this a good 10 meter antenna?

One of the many proven CB antennas tuned to 10m. My favorite is the Hy-Gain Penetrator but the IMAX2000 and many others will give great performance. What do you recommend
If your going to spend that much there are better choices like the Sirio 2016. The A99 is a good antenna for maybe $80 new but they cost too much these days.Another popular vertical CB antenna that can easily be tuned for 10m is the Antron 99. It is about 18 foot long.
Antron 99 $155.42 @ Amazon
Antron 99 w/ground plane $225.39 @ Amazon
I spent much of the 70s and 80s testing and comparing every CB base antenna I could get my hands on. The A99 is a half wave end fed and works well or about the same as any other end fed half wave. I was impressed with the Sirio 2016 and its definitely an improvement over an 1/2 wave and at a reasonable price. Plus the ground radials are fairly short giving more mounting options.Well it's been a long time since I have messed with any 10m or 11m vertical antennas so I didn't know how the Antron compared to others as far as price goes. All I know is it does seem to be popular.
Again no experience with 10/11m vertical or with the Sirio brand. I do know people that have the Sirio 6m Yagi antennas and they are very happy with them.
- Type: 5/8λ ground plane
- frequency range: tunable from 26.4 to 28.2 MHz
- System: 10M-HAM
- Impedance: 50Ω
- Radiation (H-plane): 360° omnidirectional
- Polarization: linear horizontal
- Gain: 1.3 dBd, 3.45 dBi
- Bandwidth
SWR ≤ 2: SIRIO 2016 : ≥ 2100 KHz
- Max. power: 1000 Watts (CW) continuous 3000 Watts (CW) short time
- Feed system / position: Transformer DC-ground / base
- Connector: UHF-female
I'm still recommending this antenna and it will tune to 29.7MHz at the top end of 10m if you wish. The antenna assembles with screws in pre-drilled holes with the top section being adjustable through its advertised frequency range and limited only by how far down the top section will go. Drill a new hole 6" down on any section to shorten the vertical element and the tunable top section will now tune to probably 30MHz or higher. The ground radials on this model are not resonant and will work over a wide frequency range without adjustment, unlike models with full 1/4 ground radials. After looking at the specs for the Sirio 2016, I have to ask, can it be easily tuned for the FM portion of the 10m band or even for the SSB portion of the band?
The reason I ask is that the spec sheet states the frequency range is from 26.4 MHz to 28.2 MHz. And that does not even cover the technician portion of 10m that is from 28.3 to 28.5 MHz
Sirio 2016 (26.4 - 28.2 Mhz) 10M-HAM 3000 Watts Tunable Base Antenna
If we are going to recommend antennas, then we should make sure they will work for what the OP wants AKA what portion of the band he has privileges on, etc etc.
