Hello group,

thanks for your attention... Im having some trouble getting used to the 536HP's terminology and (I guess) the dummed-down functionality. It seems to be formatted in a more user friendly manner but it's actually much more difficult to understand compared to the 996 series.

My first question... I'm trying to set up a P25 Phase II trunked system. The control channels are being rounded down. I enter 772.28125 and it rounds it down to .2812. So far I have not heard any activity on the system. What am I doing wrong?

This scanner, and most others, don't show the last digit but it still uses it in its receiver. Check that it indicates some signal strenght on that channel or you are out of range. Then check service types, enable all of them as test. Set ID search in the systems options tab.

Which system?

Hi,

This is for Suffolk County, NY Type II and Suffolk County Phase II systems. I tried putting in both systems and can't hear any activity on the analog system, the digital system I heard some activity on but not sure if it's due to the fact that the system is not completely up or if I'm doing something wrong. The analog system I already have another radio on that works fine, and I hear NO activity on my 536HP.

This scanner is so complicated for no particular reason. I know the HP series has always been different than the standard scanner line but jeeze!

I did manage to catch one quick message on the Phase II system and the audio quality was the best I've ever heard. Not sure..... I'm thinking of returning the 536 and grabbing a 396P2, but the 536 IS a beautiful scanner! Very torn on what to do.

As for Ubbe's suggestions, I clicked ALL service types on Sentinel and did set ID Search. I was hoping that ID Search would scan the entire system and I guess I was right, but I got nothing! Does the scanner require all of the system's frequencies or just control channels?

there are notes in the database that the system is currently in testing. may not be fully operational and that's why you aren't hearing anything or much. make sure you can hear the control channel. can you see the signal meter?

I'd say give yourself permission to make mistakes and understand there is a learning curve. This is a top of the line scanner having lots and lots of features so it will take time to master. (Many of those features came as requests from users like us, so we are most of the reasons for its complexity.)

Kma,

the analog system is the one I'm having issues with. I cannot pick up anything. I see a signal meter. Not sure what the issue with it is. ID Search is enabled.

are you entering the 772.28125 frequency as analog? because it is on a digital phase 2 system. you would need to input it as a phase II digital trunk in order to get the proper voicing. this frequency should be on the full database, and it would likely be easiest to pull the frequencies onto a favorites list using sentinel.

Again, I was able to get activity on that system. It's the Type II Smartzone system that I cannot get activity on. All of the system types were enabled, I tried creating the system on the scanner AND Sentinel, I added ALL of the 800 frequencies, not just the control channels, I added it as a Motorola type system, I set ID Search, I confirmed that a signal was being received to the radio, etc. I've been at this radio thing for 15+ years and this scanner has me stumped. Back this goes and I'll be getting a 996P2. the 536 is a nice looking scanner too, oh well.

To eliminate programming error as a possible issue, just copy the system from the main database into a FL and try that. The 536 is no more complicated to set up than the 996.

I guess there is no analog Smartzone systems out there that uses a custom bandplan in the 700/800MHz range?
