I want to monitor Columbus, OH Police and Fire. It's my understanding they use the statewide MARCS P25 System. In my ARC500 software; when I select the state and county that I want, and then select the MARCS system from the trunking tab, in the left pane are all the sites are listed. and on the right are all the talkgroups. On the sites side I see entries for both Columbus and Franklin County.and on the right, I see a multitude of talkgroups that don't change as I select from the different sites. How do I know which talkgroups go with which sites?

Also, if I want to put Fire on one scanlist and Police on another list, Do I have to select a site each time I add a talkgroup?

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

The talkgroups can roam from and across a number of sites. It is best to select by site, which will determine what you can receive, and then add any and all talkgroups you are interested in.

Thanks for the reply

The problem I have is that within the county I live there are multiple sites within the county. The talkgroup list does not change as I select from the different sites to upload. In the talk group list, once they are loaded to the ARC Software have to assigned to a specific trunking site. They don't scan all the different sites. They have to be assigned to just one site.

Nor familiar with that software, but that requirement, if it exists, is crazy.

Generally, you enter the sites you are interested in, and then add (one time) all the talkgroups, which can come up under any of those sites that have been entered.

Just select the Columbus Site for Columbus City PD/FD.

In ARC500, a couple of options.

1. Select Columbus as the Site, Select all the Talk Groups you want (PD, FD, etc), download, and then manually edit and enter the Scan List you want to assign to each Talk Group.

2. Select Columbus as the Site, Select all the Talk Groups you want in Scan List 1 (e.g. Columbus PD Zone 1), make sure Scan List 1 is checked in the Scan List, and download. Repeat for the next group of Talk Groups you want in the next Scan List, and make sure that the previous Scan List is unchecked and the desired Scan List is checked.

If you need specific steps (above is a general workflow) reply back to this posting.
