My Pro-2096 has not had a firmware update and it still picks up the Marcs IP system Lake Co. uses, I wouldn't worry too much about stuff like that. If you prefer the GRE's (or R.S.) over the Uniden feature set, then go for the GRE.

If I were you, I would certainly consider the PSR 800. If you can find one for a reasonable price this would be great. I would certainly look around for one. Lately, the prices have skyrocketed due to retail greed, but I would look around to see if there are some for sale on Ebay.

I am attempting to find one myself. The PSR 500, which I currently own, won't work on Phase II. Some systems are headed in this direction. Houston, Texas has extensive use of "T" mode. Here is an example of what is occurring on the Phase II activity in Houston. See the mode column for "T" for Harris County & Houston, Texas talk groups. Texas Wide Area Radio Network (TxWARN) Project 25 Trunking System, Various, Texas - Scanner Frequencies

Of course, this is only a suggestion since I don't know what direction your area will take regarding Phase II.

I appreciate you sharing your opinion regarding supply & demand, but I happen to disagree. After watching various Car Auctions like Mecum, I see low mileage automobiles go through the roof. I can live with this because it is an auction. I can even live with the PSR 800 going through the roof on Ebay. For some reason, this doesn't really bother me as much.

I suppose you could also look at cutting-edge drugs for childhood types of cancer where a child's life lies in limbo. Any Oncologist could sit there and say, "how much do you love your child & what are you willing to pay for them to live. If the parents didn't have the money, the physician could callously say, "sorry, folks, I'm sorry to say this, but little Johnny is going to die. But, some physicians follow ethics & this kind of thing doesn't happen as much as you might think.

I'm reminded of those who sell gasoline prices at triple the prices during a state disaster such as a hurricane. In Texas, we have an AG who aggressively prosecutes these greedy pigs. To me, it has everything to do with personal integrity. Some people seem to have a deficiency in this area such as the vermin selling the PSR 800 for ridiculous prices.

I love my 500 and would fully recommend it to another hobbiest. I picked the 500 instead of the 800 due to a couple reasons, being initial cost, and that I like having all sort of controllability of my radio instead of punching in a # and letting it decide what it receives

Bi--ch and moan, bi--ch and moan...It won't change a thing. Is it greed? Of course it is. That's why they're in business, they're greedy. And that's a GOOD thing. Greed is what has given us grocery stores, clothing stores, appliance store, etc. with shelves piled high with goods for sale. The best quality goods the world has ever seen for the lowest prices the world has ever seen. The price will go up on any product that is in short supply, that tends to make the limited supply last longer. It also tends to give the manufacturer incentive to produce more.

Interesting. Well, at present, how many goods have the good ole "Made in The USA" label on them. I can assure you my boots came from Texas, not Singapore. I suppose we need to face the fact we are living in a world economy. Again, if the PSR 800 were made here in America, how much would it cost? It depends on how you measure "cost." Remember, those store shelves used to be stocked with American-made products.

Oink, oink, oink. Are the Corporate pigs ever satiated?

By the way, I also love my PSR 500. I just hope someone steps up & corners the scanning market. However, one person made a good point. How big is the scanning market? Anyone have some numbers to throw at me? The absence of a healthy company to replace GRE, at this point in time, might mean something, but I don't have a crystal ball. I can only hope that I can find a PSR 800 for a reasonable price.

I've met my share of "greedy" folks, but inside of a Texas prison. I'm glad they were caught & sentenced. Tonight, I am watching an episode of "American Greed." It involves a Ponzi scheme in NM. Ah, the seven deadly sins, aren't they divine?

im sorry mate,i cannot draw a parallel between necessities like gas or food and a luxury item like a high end scanner.(or big screen TV..IPAD2,google glasses...)

Agreed,in times of crisis gouging for profit is unacceptable. But Wanting, not Needing to hear a PhaseII system is not life or death.

LOL! Sometimes, it does seem like it is a life necessity. Scanner withdrawal symptoms are not pleasant. I will be happy when I can put my hands on a PSR 800. At present, I am waiting on a guitar sell.

At this point I would still take a Pro-106 or a PSR-500 over any of the Uniden offerings, and over the PSR-800 too. I was very disappointed in it, and a friend's proved to be just as bad. I have both a PSR500 and a 106 at present and have very few complaints.

I've heard a few complaints about the PSR 800 relative to the paint on the case & various things. What disappointed you & your friend? I knew one fellow who returned his PSR 800 within 48 hours because he claimed the it wasn't picking up signals very well.

This person told me he had a Pro-106 and PSR 800 sitting beside one another in his test run.

For me, I am wanting to monitor the TxWarn P25 in Houston, Texas which is currently using "T" mode.
