• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi,

I have a RLN5583B that needs a rib box to use. I would like to skip the rib box. I have a RKN4081C ribless programming cable. I also purchased a cables to go rj45 10 pin to db25 male connector (02922). I examined the rkn4081 and see only 4 wires are actually inside the connector. I took apart the db25 female connector on the rln5583 and see that only pins 1 and 15 and going to the rln5583b box. Pins 4 and 11 are connected together. So I plugged the connector I purchased into the rkn4081 and plugged every combination of 2 pins into pins 1 and 15 of the rln5583 and tried to read a cp200. My attempts failed.

I would like to know why I failed. I thought the rkn4081 was a ribless programming cable. Yes it is not a programming cable for a cp200 but to use the rkn4081 you need a fkn8096b to program a radio anyway. So I assumed (probably incorrectly) that I could just use the rkn4081, change the pinout using my adapter, and plug it into a rln5583. Can this be done? I need to flash a bunch of CP200 radios otherwise I would just get a usb programming cable for the cp200.

Thanks,

The RKN4081C is a ribless cable but it is intended for a different radio/radios. You need the correct cable and I think a rib to accomplish what you want to do.

You are correct the RKN4081C is a ribless cable and it is intended for a different radio/radios. I was hoping to create an adapter (similar to the FKN8096B) and make it work with a RLN5583B and/or other programming cables. I see ribless cables for radios for just about all of motorola radios, but none of these ribless cables have a way to flash a radio. Is there such a thing as a serial or usb generic ribless cable, something that ends in a DB25 that I can plug cables like a RLN5583B into?

M uses a different pinout configuration for flashing most radios. unless you want to brick some radios do it right, or don't do it at all.
