Does anyone know if the 7000 will be a mobile or an ht? I would certainly look into one of those if an ht. Also, is there an FPP version or mod for CS radios? You know, for the ham side of things.

The CS-7000 is an HT.

Been reading this whole thingy, and this sounds like something i need to give a really hard look at when i make Dayton next May, now if the price point stays reasonable, i just might pull the trigger on one this time around :). Totally groovy to hear all this, now i know what digital miode i`m doing next :D! YES!! N9NRA

Yeah, that sounds like the route to go. I may just wait for it to roll out. I would like to see what its going to look like. Its sure to be a hit having all of the digital modes wrapped into one radio.

Exactly, only two thingies right now, one, how steep the learning curve will be (right about how DSTAR is would be groovy), and two, how much it`ll cost (that`s the big `un right now). If them two questions are answered good enough ya can bet i`ll be getting back on the train after Dayton with a new DMR/DSTAR rig in my carry-on bag :D. N9NRA

I wonder if they will accept the splinter frequencies for narrowband. Does anyone know if the 701 does?

I've heard two prices bandied about. 199 and 249.

I believe 249 is the correct one but am not sure.

How wod one go about updating the firmware for the 7000? Woukd it just be a download and a program to install it, or woukd you have to send it in?

Seeing as the current radios they sell don't need to be sent in for a FW upgrade, I would assume any new product they import would be the same. But it's not for me to speculate anything about a radio that doesn't exist yet.

The reason i was asking is because someone earlier in the thread said something about the other digital modes would be installed in a fw update.

CS-7000

Based on my readings...

The CS-7000 will apparently be rolled out first as a UHF HT in November. A VHF HT will follow and Connect Systems is considering a mobile version as well next year.

Out of the box it will support analog, DMR and D-Star. P25, NXDN, Fusion and dPMR will be released later on via firmware updates.

Supposedly the hardware can support all the above modes, but CS doesn't have the time to write them all. They say the code will be open source and will depend on the community to write/test the protocols.

The price is $249 and you can preorder via phone or E-mail. The website is connectsystems.com. A Yahoo group is up as well, search for CS7000.

I am interested in this radio if the all the other modes can be developed. We have P25, NXDN and DMR amateur repeaters in my area.

I am assuming it would only let you FPP Ham Freqs. That way they can get around the FCC rules.

That hasn't stopped the cheap China crap radios from being Part 90 Certified.

So, when you say open source, as in "the people who own the radios write the code", about 48 hours after the radios have been received in shipment, all of the previously mentioned formats plus about 8 more digital modes that fully blow p25 and DMR out of the water will exist. THIS sounds like amateur radio to me.

Any Icom LMR radios with display can be fpp. Several Motorola radios can be fpp. Kenwood has made many TK series radios that can be fpp. The term you're looking for is a radio with vfo capability. The Baofengs can have the VFO functions locked out in the Baofeng programming software...that's how they get around Part 90.

Does the 700 have a status light (green/red)? Looking at the few videos on youtube, it doesnt look like it has one.

The land of broken calculators.
Isn't that called "color code" on DMR? Maybe the DPL will be for analog operation on that radio.

I think what they are saying is you can open monitor DMR without needing a color code or group id.
You can do this in P25 and NXDN. I didn't think it was possible with DMR but Connect Systems is promising to show us all things we didn't think was possible. Still, I wouldn't bet on it. ;)
