Connecting 996T to PC

I have downloaded 996T UASD software. In SCANNER VIEW I clicked on READ FROM SCANNER. I am getting a error box saying "This model is not supported". I then went to change the COM port # and the only choice is COM3 in the drop down box. I am using the uniden supplied RS232 cable with a Belkin adapter to go through one of my three USB ports on my notebook computer.I also downloaded the uniden PL2303 Driver installer.exe- for USB-1cable. My operating system is Vista Home Premium version 6.0.6000 Build 6000. I tried pressing F8 during power up to "Allow Unsigned Drivers" option to work but the computer keyboard started beeping. Any ideas on what could be wrong.

Load the driver for the USB cable. Plug it in and then open the USAD software.
that should give you the other com port.
Also when you load the driver make sure it is set ti com 1-4.

The PL2303 driver is most likely not the correct driver for your Belkin adapter. Uninstall the PL2303 driver and install the correct Belkin driver (most likely from this site).
