The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

So, im trying to connect the kenwood mic to the REAR of the control head. That 12 pin "ACC" connector. Reason im doing this is since in my vehicles the radio is mounted up above the driver I dont want a mic cable dangling down.

Previously i have done this by cutting and extending the stock mic cable just after the propertiary tk-790 connector and extended it down. Sloppy...i want to do it so nothing it plugged in in the front this time.

So, here's what I got.

12 pin ACC connector on the rear of the control head:

Pin 6 and pin 3 go to the PTT on the mic.

Pin 4 and 5 go to the MIC on the mic.

Program aux input 1 to activate the PTT.

The PTT works fine, i press the mic and it transmits...but there is nothing transmitted...like the mic isnt hooked up.

FYI, the "Mute Mic with External PTT" is NOT checked.

Am I missing something here?

Got it working. Turns out it was multiple things, including a coiled mic cable that had a bad rj45 crimp on one end.

Pretty happy I got this all going, now its all RJ45 based which makes replacing mic cables simple and, should one go bad in the middle of no where, any old ethernet cable can be used.

Thanks guys,
