Considering new scanner.

Hello everyone, I am considering upgrading from my Pro-83 handheld to one of the following scanners, BC898, BCT89, or the BC796D(However I'm not sure about this one, as the stores say you need license for it). The problem is I'm not sure which one I should be looking at getting of those 3. My main use for it would be to install in my car(If possible), and to listn to the Niagara EMS, Hamilton FD/PD, and Peel PD. If anyone could point me in the right direction I would be most grateful.

Yes I'm located in Canada. I am not sure if I need digital or not, all I know is that Niagara EMS, Hamilton PD/FD and Peel PD are all on Trunked systems.

Looking in the Database it seems that the Hamilton and Peel system are conventaly trunked. The Niagara EMS, called Ministry of Health, has UHF conventually. Since you are looking for a mobile setup I would recommend Radio Shacks Pro-2055,$299.99. If you would like to see a scanner feature comparison chart click HERE. The reason that I would recommend the 2055 is that you said you wanted a mobile set up and my personal preference of alpha tagging, without it on large trunking systems its hard to tell who is who. If a handheld would work for you I would go with the BCR330T, even with the NASCAR logo this looks like the best non digital scanner out. Hopes this helps.

I've thought of the PRO_2055, but up here in Canada its hard to get those without having to go to the states. I'd rather get something from either Radioworld, or Durham radio.

I may be mistaken but I think Glenn @ www.scannersunlimited.com ships to Canada and he carries the Pro-2055. You could call and ask!

No licences is needed for the digital scanners in Canada (if in doubt phone Radioworld or Durham). If you want to monitor any of the OPP you would need a digital. None of the ones you listed are digital (if you can afford it I suggest going digital). I have both the 296 and 396 and love them (when I get my 396 back that is). I have a couiple of different mount in both my vehicles and they work great with a mag. mount antenna.

I was browsing through Scannermaster tonight, and noticed most of their scanners turn out cheaper with shipping charges and the exchange rate than buying one from here in Canada! I noticed the PRO-2096 looked mighty fine. Anyone know if that sucker would do the trick for my wants/needs??
