Consolidated Dispatch in Tuscaloosa County

Just happened to spot an article in the Tuscaloosa News today regarding consolidated dispatch for all public safety agencies in Tuscaloosa County (with the exception of the state troopers). I think it'd be a great idea to have every agency answering calls in the same place. I'm sure it would take a big chunk off of each agency's response time. Sounds like a big "if" right now though.

We did that in 1992 up here. It has worked pretty well. There were some growing pains initially. I dispatched before and after the switch. Some things were great, some not. The technology improved quite a bit because money could be pooled....but we lost personal face to face contact with the deputies back then.
