I have E-Mailed him twice in the last week without any response; maybe he's on vacation. I updated win 96 last week when I got the 2096 and now it wants a key again & the orig won't work--

Everybody needs a VAC sometimes

I had no problem with my upgrade. I did find this though:

Version 1.29 2004.02.29 13:00 PST

* Changed the frequency pasting code so that it will accept strings up to 11 characters in length, instead of the previous maximum of 10 characters. This will allow pasting of frequencies greater than or equal to 1 GHz with 6 decimal places. (The previous limit was incurred by legacy code – Win92 didn’t allow frequencies that high, so 10 characters was a reasonable limit).
* Removed a check for "printable" characters in alpha tags. This is to allow most of the actual characters available on the PRO-96.
* Added the "extended" frequencies to SR6 lockouts.
* Changed the copy-protection scheme so that it no longer depends on the user’s hardware. It is now dependent upon the user’s name and email address only. NOTE: If you are a registered user of Win96, this change may invalidate your current key. If this happens, send me an email and I'll issue a new key.

Thats the only thing I could see that would cause that problem. I also know that Don has had problems with peoples email being filtered out of his email. You may want to try and PM him here or try a different email address.

Upgrading from a previous version
To upgrade, merely download the new version of the ZIP file and extract its contents into the same folder where you currently run Win96, overwriting the older version. If you're a registered user, your registration will not be affected.

Did you send the old Win96 exe to recycle prior to downloading? If so, restore and download again.

That part kinda stands out to me right there.
Seems he went from a system id check to a username/email schema and it may just invalidate most keys. But definatly a good thing for those that like to chage thier hardware often.

I just unzipped into, and overwrote the existing version; but it was an early one, from October 2003. I never saw any reason to upgrade until the 2096 having the backlight adj. That was dumb of me anyway because I either leave it off or dim.

Hopefully I will hear from him soon. I found the original zipped download
from 2003, but I think the prog generates a new # each time its unzipped?

If I don't hear I will try to PM him. I bet sometime he wishes he never wrote it!--or maybe he is in Belize drinking a margarita

Yea I still havent heard from him. he is either surfing in Hawaii or who knows God what. But I know I do not like buying something online and not hearing from the seller after the purchase. You know.

Well just know that he must be very busy right now. He is a very active person on this board and I have never seen him screw anyone.
He must be very busy or unable to reply at the moment. I am sure he will see the emails and get back to you as soon as he can.
