I use the search limits a lot. In fact, I use five of the ranges with Control Channel only enabled.

With the new firmware, CC search stops on the channel and allow no audio through.
I checked and changed modulation, changed ranges, still no sound coming through.
This is for Motorola trunked systems. CC on LTR systems still works and audio comes through. Only the Motorola systems do not pass audio. I have not checked any P25 systems as of yet. (Tomorrow)

It does stop on channels, and ID's are displayed. And on the systems I observed, it (apparently) enables the status bit, so if shows odd and even Talk Group id’s on Type I systems. I forgot to check on Type II systems, but will tomorrow. On the BCD396 list, several are reporting this problem as well.

Any easy work around or solutions?

Mine did this with the V2 installed. It will show the SID info and any active TG's. I just figured it was a feature of the radio to mute the data channels.

This is definitely a new issue with v. 3.
Worked fine previously and it is happening with Type II Moto as well.

Friends told me of reading this and I only checked a P25 simulcast multi path site that had issues but early this morning I read a post in a 396T Yahoo Group. I then checked my 396. I am having the same issue. If you have 2 scanners, do the CC search along with a scanner trunking the exact same system. Look for phanton/false TGs if possible. On 3 separate systems I am getting 8xxx series TGs displaying. Is it data from CC or something else?.... But, the ZERO audio on Moto CC only search is very real. And it appears to only be on analog 800Mhz systems.

similar issue with Mot scaning

I just updated my 396 to v3 and it's been a while since I've used it. Not only do I not hear audio while searching CC only, I also notice while scanning a Mot system and holding on that system (using func button), I see all kinds of talk groups pop up but no audio. I then let it continue scanning and still nothing. None of my talk groups are locked out. I know the 396 has always been a little sketchy about decoding CC but this really bad.

Thanks,
A quick update.

P25 systems track and pass audio through on 800 MHz and 380 MHz.
Type II and Type I do not come through on 800 MHz.
I did not see any problems on other bands, (no moto trunking) except I could not get a CC lock on 900 MHz today (weak signal & big building in the way)

So It looks like it affects 3600 systems only.
And I'm confident you'll fix it.

If you watch the CC frequency, it does not change when a TG becomes active. It just hangs on the CC the whole time never changing freqs.

An update for me as well:

re: not hearing any Mot Conventional systems while scanning - I had my scanner programmed wrong! Sorry about that....

Missing Audio

For UPMan. Thanks for looking into the no audio issue. I just purchased a 898t and while monitoring a analog Motorola trunked system I sometimes get a TGID on the screen but no audio. I would also like to ask if the sensitivity of the 800MHz range of frequencies for the 898 is different than the 895? I notice a big difference in reception in the 800 - 900 MHz range. Much worse on the 898, even using the same antenna(s) etc. I know you are terribly busy, so thanks again ahead of time.

There is no standard band plan for VHF like there is for 800, so it would take a major change to the architecture to accomplish. I wouldn't expect it (certainly wouldn't expect it anytime soon). If it could be done, you'd have to supply the band plan...which would likely limit its use only to those systems you know the band plan for...which would pretty much defeat the purpose.
