As winter approaches, what do you folks have your fm ham tranceivers programmed to listen to? I do not want to keep a digital scanner in the car, so APD and AST are out. My goal is to not only have the local ham frequencies, but also a group of frequencies that might prove useful for road closures and traffic issues on the Glenn.

Here are some of what I have so far:

154.295 9G Base (also the tactical frequencies)
155.370 Palmer PD
464.175 Valley school bus
461.725 Valley school bus
152.450 Valley cab (often amusing listening)
152.300 Anch cab?
157.560 Anch cab?
153.155
155.190 Arrow 1
162.270 Arrow 2
462.350 Princess buses
160.125 Carlile

I have been keeping watch on the AK Trucking Association frequencies, but I have not heard anything on them as yet.

I am open to more. Especially since I got stuck in traffic on the Glenn just this very afternoon.

Without a digital scanner you may find that you'll have a lot of silence on your commute.

School buses and some cab companies are TRBO. Princess/holland buses are winding down in their season, but they have also been using 461.87500.

I've been traveling around on the highways all summer, and have not heard anything out of the trucking frequencies either.

There is some activity in the 147mhz range for hams in anchorage.

Any idea why they call it 9G base?

"160.125 Carlile"

While it has been thirteen years ago I drove a Carlile Transportation truck, Carlile had their own UHF repeater in Anchorage and Fairbanks, 450mhz something. I drove on the Parks every night, Arrow 1, 155.190mhz. I see the feds allowed Alaska to have its own "trucking" freqs. I guess they (FCC) finally figured out they could not control the airwaves there, so they basically joined them...
