Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Converting to updated PPS for G5

I have two versions of the PPS on my computer to program the G5. My first version where I created all of my code plugs is V0.3.16 Beta 24. I have now installed Version 4, which I haven't used yet.

In the old version my code plug covers the P25 Trunked Systems in parts of 3 states, including Ohio, Michigan and Indiana. So my talk group list includes just over 1,000 talk groups. Is there any way to convert this code plug so that I can use it with version 4 and separate the talk groups by state, so that I don't have to look through all of them when I want to make a change? Or is my only option to have this feature to start over from scratch and create a new one?

Export your files to the computer first, then import into the new version of PPS. Also, you can have both versions of PPS open at the same time, so you can use the old one as a template to make sure you're putting stuff in the right places. For the files you're going to import into the new version, be sure to export a blank file from the new PPS first in order to get the correct format.

You should rebuild your cp file. The new PPS keeps all TGID's with the appropriate system. The old PPS grouped all ID's into one group. When importing this one group, all 1000 ID's, will be loaded into every system you have programmed. If you have 50 systems, that is 50,000 ID's loaded into the pager. This can cause issues with the pagers performance.

The Version 3 PPS does not allow for exporting, so I will start from scratch with Version 4.

I'm working on a rebuild now. With the import feature from a .csv file it should be pretty easy. And having fewer talk groups to sort through will certainly make it easier. That what my goal is. Thanks!
