I have returned to Florence area for the winter months. Since returning I have not heard any traffic on Coolidge PD or Fire channels. Did something change?

IIRC, there were a number of resignations on the FD side of comms and the City of Mesa had to pick up the slack.

I hear Florence PD comms on their frequencies but nothing on Coolidge PD 155.775 or their old 156.195.

Yep, Florence PD is still coming in, I can pick them up from my mobile in Gilbert everyday. Coolidge PD used to come in as well all the time but haven’t heard anything from them jn many weeks now either.

"law enforcement encrypted"? Is that different than just encrypted?

It means that non-law enforcement may not be encrypted. Or only law enforcement is encrypted, however you want to phrase it.

Encryption is encryption. Not all LE is encrypted but some non-LE is encrypted though they can use different Encryption keys. There are lots of things that are encrypted that scanner people have no knowledge of.

Encryption is encryption. Just so happens that a lot of PD’s are going encrypted. Fire departments can be encrypted, anyone can really ( as long as they have the licensing, equipment, etc )

Edit - the post above mine actually covered it pretty well. The scanner enthusiast will be SOL if all they want to listen to is the police in a few more years me thinks.

Yea, encryption is encryption. But what everyone is apparently missing from my comment, is that on the Pinal County trunked system, only law enforcement is 100% encrypted.

Casa Grande FD is not encrypted.
Animal Control is not encrypted.
Country Corrections is not encrypted.
EMS uses partial encryption.
Pinal County Sheriff is encrypted.
Casa Grande PD is encrypted.

So, the Pinal County trunked system is 100% law enforcement encrypted. And if Coolidge PD switched from their old VHF-High channels to the Pinal County trunked system, they are likely fully encrypted as well.

I spoke with a Florence PD officer today. He confirmed that they are now encrypted. Fire can still be heard on PD channel.
Coolidge PD has probably also gone to encryption.

Could’ve sworn I heard Florence PD in the clear just today. Did they just go encrypted like today ? Cause I heard them almost 100% positive this morning on their same VHF frequency they’ve always been on

I am listening to Florence PD in the clear tonight. ???
That’s what I thought. Florence PD is still in the clear on their old VHF P25 channel. I have been hearing what sounds like an open carrier on one of the analog VHF Florence frequencies for a few days now. No idea what that’s about. But their PD is definitely still in the clear.
