I have heard from several officers that the COPS TV crews are in Sacramento for the next few weeks. I was on a undercover drug operation yesterday that the crew was supposed to be on also but decided not to go and they missed a good foot pursuit and big drug recovery.

I have seen at least two SPD cruisers with what looked like a TV crew in the back seat. There were two guys in the back that were obviously not prisoners and I thought I saw a camera, but I'm not sure.

They filmed a few COPS episodes in Sacramento with SPD and SSO back in the early to mid 1990's. Sounds to me like they got bored with going to Pierce County, Washington every year (or at least it seemed like that was the case)...

They were also in Oxnard (Ventura County) a few weeks ago.

Was that a COPS crew or possibly another TV crew in Oxnard? This past Thursday, Court TV aired a new series called "Speeders" where one of the officers profiled was an Oxnard nicknamed "The Hammer" (can't think of his name off the top of my head) who was notorious for not giving people a break on a ticket.

Orozco is "the hammer."

really entertaining.

COPS should come to Salinas and do a ride-along with the Gang Task Force.

I second that one! Not even with the GTF, just with the guys on some of the downtown or Eastside beats... That would be fun!

I met one of the guys with one of the COPS camera crews last year. He had been in the little restaurant/lounge/bar that I hang out in several times over the course of several weeks. The last night he was there he tossed a couple of COPS hats at me and then let me on on what his job was. I guess he had been shooting footage in Moreno Valley and with at least one or two other departments over the course of those weeks. He said he didn't like telling people what he did for work until he was getting ready to leave because apparently a lot of people start asking for COPS freebies. Anyway, he was a pretty nice guy although I don't recall his name now and I ended up keeping one hat and gave the other to my friend who is a sheriff's deputy.

Sorry for being a thread hijacker, folks.

Downtown (oldtown) would be hilarious, especially with the hobos, drug dealers, and drunk teenagers running around.

East Side would be good, enough said. No shortage of stuff. Just gonna need subtitles and a handy censor beep button.

I think Chinatown (Soledad St. Vicinity) would be included in the Downtown beat. The hard drug (heroin, meth, crack, etc.) stuff would be good thing to film over there. Not even to mention the prostitution.

All three would be great for COPS.

Be sure to listen up on Salinas PD's detective channel for stings if you've got a P25 scanner handy.

Confirmed

COPS has been with Sac PD for 2 or 3 weeks, they will be with Sac PD for 2 or 3 more weeks. Unknown when it will air.

I had a Citrus Heights PD unit pull out onto Greenback last night in front of me while I was heading to Birdcage. There were two guys in the back, one with a mike and another guy in the front seat with a large camera. I witnessed the unit have two cars pulled over in seperate traffic stops. A COPS crew?

CHPD was doing local media ride along’s for the street racing crack down this weekend. Most of the stations were live from Sunrise Mall during the 10 and 11 PM shows.

whose the media officer over there at chpd?

I don't know that they have a designated PIO, every time I call over they refer me to the on duty watch commander.
