The police are starting to carry new Kenwood radios and the rumor is that they are going digital.
Since nexedge is the stuff Kenwood is shouting from the roofs about are they going that route?

They will then become unmonitorable with a scanner. Voice inversion is already in some use.

Quick get the tinfoil hats! jk
Kenwood makes a new radio in P25 that looks just like Nexedge NX200 series. Could it possibly be that they may have the 5220 radios and someone mistakenly thought they were nexedge radios? Yes they like to play with Voice Inversion on 154.9500 with No PL, but that has been happening for years. And jvdet is correct someone was asking about Old Tappan having a "Digital" channel. The poster stated they saw it listed in a channel plan at Old Tappans new Police Station.

while enroute to Golf in OT observed RiverVale on a medical call using old fashion FM - if this digital stuff is true, then why would a town with 2.5 cars on the road and OT with 2 cars on the road per shift- on a good day - need digital they get no more advantage than FM

There is a distinct range advantage. Whether it is relevant in this case I can't say.

The salesman did a great job he sold them new P25 radios. They are now using P25 digital.

Radio repair was playing with the analog system friday talking back and forth making adjustments and trying consoles. Did not hear any Digital traffic. They were however referring to 155.1900 with the analog repeater as "Channel 2". So I guess the person that thought they had NX-200 Nexedge Radios, actually must have seen the P25 5220 portables.

Town size doesn't matter. Atlantic Highlands has 2 cars on per shift and a population of about 6,000 and they have been running digital for like 15 years now.
