Could not resist! Sony ICF-2010 Basically New

I ordered a Sony ICF-2010 that was advertised as New Old Stock.

When I received it yesterday the ad was correct. The Accessories are still in a sealed bag and it has all the Paperwork - no evidence of it ever being used!

From the S/N it is an early one. 1063XX

Looking forward to it - I have missed having an ICF-2010. (Sold/traded both ones I had over the years)

I did althouggh, have to pay a pretty price for it. By the time I added 15$ Shipping and Tax it was $392.00

Still I am a Happy Camper!

Sometimes you gotta swallow the price and go for it! I recently paid a bit too much for a TenTec Argo V but it is a great little radio...

OK so some more info.
I just noticed the volume slider is apparently dirty. The volume seemed way down I moved the slider and still way low.
I picked up the radio from both sides and the volume jumped.

So not as great a find as I hoped all this said I still will keep this and likely send out sometime soon to get reworked

Just thought I would tell y’all “and now you know the rest of the story”

More on the volume:
It is only when in LSB/USB
And it takes a tap on the right side to get the volume up. Bad solder joint on a IF filter?

Yea I tried that it and the volume slide are not the issue as they both seem fine in AM wide or narrow

I’ve owned the ICF-2010 for about 25 years now, great receiver.
The volume gets dirty and creates low/scratchy volume, I normally take
some contact cleaner and spray it in the volume ”slider“ and then actuate it through full
travel several times. This has worked for me.

DeoxIT is a magical thing. Ive purchased a few used radios that sounded super scratchy. Take it apart enough to get some DeoxIT in the needed areas and work it around. Repeat as necessary... almost good as new.

Best SW portable ever in my opinion. My wife bought me mine in 1992 for $359 and it's still going strong. I used it everyday for about 10 years and then boxed it up and pull it out once every year or so just to reminisce.

I have one from about 20 years ago, still works great except for panel light, could replace the LED myself but that may introduce new problems by taking it apart and resembling it, so holding off and I'am an electrical engineer.

What did it cost you OTD if you don't mind me asking ? I think they are going for about $400 on Ebay now. Wish you the very best luck with that classic radio. Probably the only other portable radio that is better is the Eaton EX1 ( I have one of those too ). Cheers !

The S/N on my Sony ICF-2010 is 117801, still kicking....sorry I missed the OTD price in your first post...my bad. If it's in the condition you describe you got a great deal and won't be dissapointed. Yeah you got an early one....good on you. I think I paid about $450 for mine when I purchased it via Ebay. That's my go to portable, Airband works ok too.

I bought one at HRO in the early 90s
In Denver when I lived there.
Fabulous radio.

I remember listening to an HF communication
Between Johannesburg South Africa
And a commercial jet on the tarmac
in Toronto. Could hear both loud and clear.

What a great 11 year cycle that was.

New Old Stock is very rare, but the 2010 can be found on ebay. I've made quite a few purchases from bigapple59.

Why shortwave radio?. There is little advertising on shortwave and little filtering of content to satisfy advertisers. As a hobby, you learn when to listen, how to listen, and what to do to improve listening.
