Thanks for that. I am not a fan of buggy.

Neither am I. It was fun for a while but the lack of response I got from the touchscreen much of the time was very frustrating. I got a very good deal on it and it was the full registered version but it just wasn’t practical for travel use. I wanted to like it more but couldn’t.

Now I am curious how well the GP7 will do against your R20 using a telescopic antenna. Test with an R30 if you have that as well.

I was going to buy an R30 but never did so I can’t compare the 2. I really wanted one but just never pulled the plug. If it was a more common battery pack in the R30 I might have bought it last year when I was looking. I do have an R10 and it’s okay on a telescopic antenna. Nothing special. I have a Uniden BR330T that’s pretty darn good on a telescopic antenna on HF but no SSB. It’s great for SW broadcast and MW though.

We have several Malahit reviews (mostly Russian, one or two Chinese) linked here - some are done by my old friend Dan Robinson

And it seems Malahit is coming out with something new...and there's one or two other reviews limked at the bottom.

Awesome! Maybe in the future I’ll buy a real Russian Malahit. Right now I’ll stick with what I have on hand. I’m assuming the Russian ones don’t have touchscreen issues?

@Mike445 - How do you like the GP7 thus far? From what I have seen, the features over the GP5 made it look good to me. I have the R30, but that is a different price range and for $100 the GP7 seems fine at that price.

Honestly it’s my favorite radio. I like it better than my Tecsun PL-660. It’s very easy to use. Very sensitive and has good selectivity. I use the K-180WLA as my primary antenna for all bands. If you plug the antenna into the 3.5mm jack it works in AM, FM and SW. performance on the telescopic antenna is pretty impressive when outside. I bought the zombie green silicone case for mine. For the feature set and price you can’t go wrong with the GP-7.

Thank you for the update and note about the antenna plug. I may replace a Grundig G5 with the GP7 in the future. I am definitely glad I did not purchase the GP5 as the GP7 is definitely better for my needs.

What I find interesting is your use of an amplified loop versus a passive one. I have nearby broadcast towers and use filters to keep things usable. Even when camping in my area I need to use them. I have the PAR AM BCB filter I can turn off/on with its built in switch, but for significantly less I use the NooElec Flamingo AM filter which uses SMA connectors. Specifically, the Flamingo AM filter is a notch filter and not a HPF ( High Pass Filter ). The PAR is nice when I want to flip a switch and search out some distant AM stations. I will probably end up purchasing a W6LVP amplified loop as well and use the PAR filter with it.

You're welcome. If you have close FM towers stay away from the K-108WLA as it will splatter FM all over the SW band and be totally unusable. I live in the country and its perfect out here. No overload from any FM or AM or VHF stations anywhere. The active antenna works very well for me on the GP-7 and on my RTL-SDR. I've used it for MW, FM, SW, VHF and UHF with good results but as I said if you have close FM broadcast stations it'll be a disaster on SW. I have the GP-5 and I like it but The GP-7 is so much better. The keypad makes all the difference. I MIGHT pick up a HanRongDa HRD-747 due to its wideband capabilities. It's a cool little radio. Good for everyday use.

The 747 does look okay at the low price, but what of performance? I carry a Yaesu VX3R for AM/FM stuff.

I've heard mixed reviews but most have been pretty good. People saying it mirrors the Tecsun PL-330 on SW/SSB and keeps up with Uniden scanners on VHF/UHF. There was even a guy who posted a video of his tabletop Grundig on a longwire and the little 747 on the telescopic antenna picking up the same SSB ham transmissions on HF.

The only complaint that is common is the antenna is flimsy. My radio has been ordered from the UK and is in transit to the USA.

I don't need the 747...but hey. Anyways, I'll wait for your review of it.
I didn’t “need” it either. I really wanted it though. Lol! I’ll put it through it’s paces when it gets here. Still lots of analog where I am right now fir police and fire so I’ll be able to test that against my scanners. I’ll test SW, MW and FM against my Tecsun PL-660 and County Comm GP-7. See what this little thing can do.

I am curious if it will receive AM from 108~400, so one could use it for Military aircraft. If it ever reaches Amazon I'll probably give it a try and risk nothing.

It will not do AM in the mil air band unfortunately. It does do AM from 108-137 and apparently it kept up with a Zuni den scanner on civil air in one of the few reviews I found.

The HRD-747 has proven to be pretty decent. My old eyes can't see the display too well, but I knew that before I bought it. A magnifying glass has helped a lot to learn the display. Now I don't really need it, I know what the little stuff means by loaction alone.

Air seems pretty good and Railband are not bad, better than many of my other handhelds, but sad in comparison to my Yaesu VX-170, which is a great railband radio. The audio on the Yaesu is vastly better too. The Malahit V3 is a decent radio, but you have to put an external antenna on it, or the display noise makes it just terrible to listen to. I had it on a mag mount CB antenna in my car and it was doing a good job on CB and Freeband. With the whip or one of my active antennas, it was pretty much useless due to display noise. The noise reduction can only do so much.
