Couple of Pro92 Q's

So I looked around an found a Pro92 on e-bay and bought it.

Is there any way to make the backlight stay on?

Any way I can save PL Codes?
ex. If a transmission comes thru on a frequency, and I'm not there to check on it, can I go back and see if a PL tone was used, and what it is?

No, you can't make backlight stay on .

To detect a pl tone, put the radio in PL mode. When a PL is detected, it should be displayed. Press/hold the trunk button to store it.(may take 1/2-2 second press) Without computer programming, this is the only way I know to store a PL tone on a frequency. Ie you have to wait to catch it, then hold trunk.

You can make the backlight stay on my programming it for 0 seconds in Win92. All you have to do is press the Backlight button on the scanner and it stays on.

BTW, you don't need to hold "TRUNK". Just pressing it once will store the tone or code.

EDIT: When in programming mode, you can use the "STEP" button to select a DPL code or PL tone. If you mess up, hitting "FUNC" then "STEP" will go back one code or tone.

Pro-92 PL/DPL

If you're looking for the PL or DPL for a specific frequency what you can do is use the 'tune' feature of the Pro-92. Basically you press tune, enter your frequency and then if you set your mode it will display the last PL/DPL tied to that frequency. The down side is that if you have a frequency which separates multiple users with different PL/DPL tones there's no way to log them or anything, the '92 will just display the last one used.

I have used this to good effect to get PL's for seldom used local public works frequencies.

As Joseph11 said, you can use Win92 to set the backlight to stay on, though if you're not using a wall wart to power it you're going to burn through batteries fairly quickly. On the '92 with 6 batteries that can get spendy quickly.

Win92 is some GREAT freeware though. It makes programming the '92 a breeze and saves your thumbs from those calluses (sp?)

Yes, although it requires a special cable, which can be bought or built (I built mine). Turning the backlight off requires turning the radio off, then on again. The backlights have a bad reputation for being too dim, but will work better than nothing especially in the dark. I use a LED booklight to light up my display with the radio lying flat.

I downloaded Win92 and the WinXX Data Converter.
