What is the "Cowturn" sometimes heard on The Bronx fire radio?

Is it a place or something? The only thing I could think of is the ramp from the Whitestone Bridge to the Cross Bronx Expressway...

It's the ramp that leads to the westbound Cross Bronx from the northbound Hutch just north of the Whitestone tolls. Many years ago a truck carrying cows overturned there, hence the name.

Cowturn

Thanks. That clears it up! What a mess of highways.

I call that interchange "the spaghetti bowl" because that's what it looks like from above. Five major highways converge at that point and anything that happens anywhere in that bowl will result in 5 different locations. What a challenge!

That's exactly what I was thinking. It was the Mid-70s and the Highway Patrol had fun rounding the cattle up. I believe the crash happened like right after that ramp was built.
