Hi folks -

Just browsing thru the TAFL/Spectrum Direct tonight and found some relatively new grants for CP Rail for some 220 MHz frequencies, all between 220.1375 and 220.7625. They're 4-watt licenses, and authorized communications & conditions include "Licensee's locomotives and trackside equipment" (in the Ogden yards in Calgary). I don't spend much (any) time listening to trains so I don't know if this is old news.. looks like it could be some kind of replacement for the 900 MHz remote controls for yard/beltpack use, as the BW/modulation is 17.8kHz, DWX-N.

Not sure if there will be any use to scanner listeners or even telemetry hobbyists (i.e. ATCS monitors), but thought I'd make mention of it.

Interesting frequencies

I generally don't monitor 220-400 unless I see some air force planes around. Wouldn't think to listen there for Rail comms.. Not interested in telemetry but will give a listen when I think of it as live just a little north and east of the CP and CN yards [at least while they are still in the city limits]. Do listen once in a while on the CARA repeater as it was brought on line again this past fall.
