I was wondering if the cpd assigns MDC1200 codes to certain units or cars, or if they grab a different radio or squad everyday. I was thinking of trying to program in the MDC1200 codes for the units in each zone into my XTL/XTS 5000's and make a new MDC1200 system for every zone. I just wanted to know if the MDC1200 codes will be consistent with same units every shift or if the officers just get the luck of the draw for the radios and squads they use day to day making it impossible to track a unit by there MDC code.

Thanks for any info,
Bob

Come on somebodies got to know something about this, are the MDC radio Id's used by the same beat everyday or do the officers just grab random radios as they are going out on shift? I am not trying to decode MDC Computer data, just the MDC 1200 radio Id's and I already have what I need to decode and tag them I just wanted to know if they are the same for certain units and beats day to day or if its not worth the time to log and tag them?

Please, any help is welcomed if you are not comfortable posting this info to the board please email me or PM me all my contact info is in my profile.

Thanks,
Bob

Your original assumption was correct. Officers attend roll call, are dismissed, and go to the radio/equipment room where we get a radio, beat tag (the black placque that goes on the vehicle's lightbar to identify what beat you're working) and keys to whatever vehicle is available. Radios are dispensed by radio/equipment room personnel in no particular order so the MDC1200 identifier would furnish a listener with only the # of the radio the officer received that day. Each radio has the MDC1200 ID engraved on the side of the radio in case there's a stuck mic, causing interference with other radios on the frequency.

To summarize, officers drive different cars each day and take different radios each day.

Hope that helps.

Jim
