• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have a ribless usb cable for programming my HT1250, it works fine with my old vista 32 bit laptop, but it will not work with my new vista 64 bit laptop. I finally found a driver that works, says it is installed correctly and I can assign com ports etc. However, when I try to read the radio, CPS does not see the radio.

Has anybody figured this out? Also, instead of buying a serial cable, could I cut the end of the Moto cable off which is usb and wire a serial cable to it? That way there I could hook it to my usb to serial adapter that I know works with this laptop, or am I just crazy for thinking that?

It works perfectly with my vista 32 bit computer and the software itself works with this vista 64 bit. I think it is a driver problem with the usb cable.

Some Motorola software does work with Vista

A serial to USB cable might be an option if nothing else works, and I found out that you need a certain driver that makes a serial to USB work

Yeah, I have a converter cable, but I will need to purchase the Moto Serial cable to try it. The one I have now is serial out from radio, usb into cpu.

Every radio shop I know of is staying away from Vista and mainly because Motorola doesn't support it. So no help if you get your CPS thru Motorola

Microsoft's 64bit software has special protection for hardware that doesn't have signed drivers, which is funny, because there are many companies that do not have signed drivers for their own stuff.

Because of that and other issues, don't expect to program stuff on a 64 bit system. You can install 32bit windows on a 64bit laptop if you want (I do), works fine, but also, depending on CPS version, it will not work from the start
