To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have Windows 7 and I am trying to run CPS for Ht750/1250's etc. on it. It seems like the program is installed fine. It even lets me open saved codeplugs and edit them. But, as soon as i try to read/write a radio, it gives me a error message, "Can not create unknown radio component." Anybody know why, or what I can do to fix it. Thanks.

I'm using Win7Ultimate on my computer with CPS (CP-185), and once I installed the CPS, I went to the directory where the CPS was installed, right clicked on the CPS application, selected properties, clicked Compatibility tab, selected "Run this program in compatibility mode for" and selected Windows XP (Service Pack 3), clicked OK all the way out. Plugged in the USB cable, selected the corresponding USB port number and everything works fine.

I tried that Spectra. I was hoping that would work too. I am still getting the same error message, "Can not create unknown radio component." I dont know if it matters or not though, but, I am running Windows 7 Home Premium.

Don't think it's compatible with Premium, you need at least Proffessional.

Yeah, you do have to have Professional or Ultimate, they are the only versions that will do the XP compatability. You can download it from Microsoft or go to any computer retailer and you can get the key to download it.

Seems my new laptop with Window 7 ultimate installed and attempts to run CPS are not possible due to the lack of my toshiba having the hardware driver to go into virtual xp.

I followed all the above steps only to find out it cant be done with my computer.

If your Toshiba is running Win7 Premium, no. Professional or Ultimate (the only real difference between the two is Ultimate has the language packs) and set to XP mode. If it has a hardware driver problem, I would contact Toshiba to see what they say.

Find a used laptop with XP and use that for programming, you can find them for less than $100. Some have a real serial port too.

CPS Error

I use win 7 pro with several different moto cps packages and no problems, I have 32 bit win 7. If you are running 64 bit win programs this may be the problem, I did read in a previous post about using windows virtual XP, this should work for you, again though check to see if your running 32 bit win sys or 64 bit. 64 bit may not be compatible??

Maybe I am missing something on the comments a few have made about their computer.

What part about not running a 64 bit computer are you missing? What part about not running Vista are you missing.

The ideal computer is a 32 bit one running Windows XP.

The ideal computer will have a serial port for the older radios.

If you insist on using a USB port with an adapter to get a serial port, make sure it is a full functional one and not one of these cheap cut down ones that lack the control.

Stop by some of the pawn shops and computer service stores. Many times they have older computers there that you can get for nothing or very little. Take it home, rebuild the software mess they have and now your in business with a computer that will run the software you need to run.

If you don't want to do any of this, stop crying and asking for help. There have been many threads on this same subject and the answers are always the same.

I may sound harsh, but these are the facts. Take it or leave it, but the answers won't change.

I agree with Jim's response, and I will add something. I've stated this a number of times before, but people don't seem to get it. The Professional Series of radios includes the HT750/1250/1550 and the CDM750/1250/1550 and a few of the EX's. It is the Waris family of radios. They all use the same CPS and they are all programmed the same with some model option differences. Therefore, ANY programming info about one will apply to all.

Use the search function here and on the batboard. You will find dozens of posts all on this exact topic.

You did not bother to specify which version of the CPS you are using, so I will state this one more time:
Version 6.12.05 is the lowest version that will run on Vista, Win 7, or Win 8. That version was specifically released to fix the incompatibility issues.

There is also ample information about using USB to serial convertors.
