To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have the newest version of the Motorola CPS programming software.
I try to read the radio and all we get is a message "unable to read radio, please check the cable and make sure radio is on" or something like that.
I have the DOS RSS program and it works fine, but when I go to the CPS software no luck.
Anyone have any idea what I'm doing wrong? :?:

The exact message is: "Couldn't open port. Check whether Device/RIB are power on or not, and the device to RIB, and the RIB to PC connection is OK."

I've checked and everthing is ok plus the same connection works fine under the dos rss program

Maybe I can help. What radio are you trying to program? If it is an XTS 2500 or XTS 5000, you do not use a rib box but a cable straight out of the selected computer serial port.

Well. We have figured out why you can program an MTX 8000 in DOS and cannot program it in Window.

It is because there is no CPS Windows program for an MTX 8000. It is a privacy plus radio.

I suspect you are trying to use an MTS CPS program which is for smartnet radios only.

Good luck. Joe

Good Monday morning.

Well first, there is no CPS Software in existance for the MTX 8000 radio.
Motorola does not make it.

I don't know the latest DOS version of software. We do not have any MTX 8000 radios. If the DOS version you have works then that is about as far as you can go.

Regards, Joe.

As far as the XTS5000 is concerned you need to have the "Astro 25 Portable"CPS" as opposed to "Astro Saber and XTS3000 CPS" both of which have a version 04.00.00 so you cant tell by that.

The XTS5000 requires a RIBLESS cable that only works with the XTS1500/2500/5000 and is completely different from a ribless cable that works with other mtsx/xts probables. This cable comes in both serial and usb configurations and you have to have to correct one selected in the cps.

Hi. First off I agree with everything Mike said. We just went thru what you are going thru now. So after we bought the correct USB port programming cable, everything worked fine. We did not even have to change the settings in the USB port.

So we had all these new homeland pork security XTS 5000's and the correct software to program them. So we read them but could not find where to program all the 800 trunking info.

DUH!

Motorola had sent us all conventional XTS 5000 radios. So they all had to go back and be reflashed by Motorola for trunking.

The point being, the cps program will work on convential and trunking.
radios. Also, I am assuming you have a system key for the system you are going to use the radio on.

Hi Again.

Correct my last entry to read serial port, not USB port, for programming the XTS 2500 and 5000.

Regards Joe.

Need CPS Software for XTS2500 Model II

I am looking for CPS software to make some changes on my XTS2500 public safety radio. I know it is hard to get, but I don't want to take over any system, just make a few changes on my radio. Can someone please let me know how to get a copy other than Motorola. Please email me at hknow2@Bellsouth.net if you have any informaiton on obtaining a copy or just send a copy to my email. I already have the ribless cable. Thanks

If this is a public safety radio then you would be better off leaving it to whoever your public safety organization uses for their radio maintainence. If they wont help you then you probably shouldnt be making the changes you want anyways.

There is no legal way to obtain software other than directly thru Motorola. You have to sign a very long and very scary lisencing agreement for a software subscription that will keep you current for the next couple years.
I know its expensive but you never know what you are downloading from some shady offshore website.

Why risk bricking your $1000 radio?

On many sites you will get a in load of trouble even for asking for what you just did. Those sites are not trying to give you a hard time they are simply looking out for themselves. Motorola WILL come along and shut down a site offerring RSS/CPS downloads.

It's really not that bad.

$265.00

[EDIT]

Just to edit my post:

I'm not selling software. I was stating that the cost of the software is $265.00 from Motorola. Furthermore, if you want RSS/CPS, please follow these instructions:

You have to call Motorola at 1-800-422-4210.

You ask them to FAX you a license agreement. They'll FAX it to you and then you'll have to sign it in RED ink (crazy huh?).

You MAIL it back to them, E-Mail will NOT work. FED-EX works the best. Yes, they want to see that pretty RED ink that you signed with.

Once you are approved to purchase the software, they'll take your order. The software from Motorola for the XTS2500 is list at $265.00. It also programs the XTS5000 as well as XTS1500, MT1500, SSE5000 and PR1500.

Serial programming Cable

Does anyone have the pinouts for the serial programming cable, that is the only one that you can flash through. I need complete pin to pin info. Thanks.

I am not sure about the newest line of portablessuch as the XTS1500/2500/5000 that do not require a rib but the remainder of flashport capable portables use the standard programming cable. The difference is that you must use a SMART RIB and there is a doggle that goes between the RIB and the computer.

The pinouts for the programming cable are easily available at www.batlabs.com but you wont find diagrams for the SRIB only the conventional RIB and that wont do you any good. I believe the SRIB is too complex to be easily duplicated.

xts 5000 cable

the xts 2500 and xts 5000 are the only two radios that use this direct cable, your correct the design on batlabs will not work, also you can't flash the radio with the usb cable., only the serial as stated by /\/\.
