Issue
There are multiple causes for this issue:
1) APX CPS or RM was installed from the lower level .msi installers instead of Setup.exe.
2) Folder permissions are not set to allow. Starting in SR2024.1/CPS 33.x.x an error message will be returned if this is the cause of the issue.
3) A corrupt file may cause this issue
Resolution
1) Always install APX CPS or RM from Setup.exe (
Installing from a .msi file is a subcomponent of the installer and it does not check for the prerequisites, like C++ redistributables or other required dependencies).
2) For versions prior to CPS 33.x.x (SR2024.1) check folder permissions to confirm they are set to allow, and navigate to the following folder:
C:\Users\
your_username\AppData\Local\Motorola_Solutions,_Inc\APXFamilyCPS.exe_StrongName_bkap50rmuyyjysugtqhhamxdpizpcmxo
Right-click the folder and navigate to Properties > Security, then highlight the current user and confirm permissions are set to allow as shown below:
3) A corrupt file may cause this issue.
In versions prior to CPS 34.x.x (SR2024.2), a file located in the isolated storage folder may cause this issue. Navigate to the following location:
C:\Users\
your_username\AppData\Local\IsolatedStorage\ (The AppData folder is not visible by default. Set File Explorer > View > Hidden Items > true)
Search for this file:
APX7000_7500CpsMru.xml, which should return something similar to the image below:
Open each APX7000_7500CpsMru.xml file with Notepad, and remove the file that is empty, or has no content. After completing this step, APX CPS should open successfully.
Technical Notes
Workaround: Create a new Windows user profile on the PC, and install CPS/RM. If on a domain, the existing user profile would need to be recreated.
