AURORA (AP) - A man has been hospitalized after the boom of a crane he was operating collapsed at a construction site on the Fitzsimons medical campus in Aurora this morning.

Captain Mike Ackman of the Aurora Fire Department said the top 60 feet of the 100-foot boom fell to the ground at around 9:30 a-m. He said the truck itself did not overturn and appeared to be intact.

Television helicopter video showed parts of the boom scattered across the bare ground.

Ackman said investigators heard unconfirmed reports the man was injured when he jumped out of the operator's cab of the truck-mounted crane. He said the man was transported to University Hospital in Denver with minor to moderate injuries.

Officials at the site trying to determine how the crane collapsed.
