On occasion, Cranston Fire Department simulcasts on talk group 1501. But as of March 19, 2020 only dispatchers can be heard and no apparatus or subscriber (portable) units. I wonder if they now operate on a stand alone P25 repeater as the Police. Anyone know?

Dispatch is TG 1500. 1501 (Channel 2) and 1502 (Channel 3) are assigned upon dispatch. TG's 1503 (Channel 4) or 1507 (Channel 5) may also be assigned upon dispatch. They are full time on RISCON, 800Mhz digital trunked simulcast.

Someone tell me why my amateur buddies and i using cheap Anytone DMR radios sound 100% better than the radios being used by the Fire Department? This system really sounds bad!

Probably because the cheap chinese radios don't have to meet any spec or standard that public safety radios need to meet. And, if you're not used to listening to digital, it does sound different. Decades ago people complained about how SSB sounded compared to AM.
Can anyone else weigh in on how "really bad" Cranston FD sounds? I have absolutely no problem listening on multiple radios and scanners.....From a cheap 996T to an APX8000 all band portable to an APX8500 all band mobile and a bunch of low to mid-level Kenwood and Harris public safety radios.
