Crews working to restore natural gas service in Elk City

By Brian Sargent and Sheila Stogsdill

ELK CITY — About 100 Oklahoma Natural Gas employees are going house-to-house today restoring gas service to customers here after a high-pressure pipeline was severed.

Crews had to go to each of 5,700 meters or customers where there is a gas meter and physically shut them off. Employees are now going back to meters, testing the pressure, turning the meters back on and relighting pilot lights, Sherry said.
Customers must be home while pilot lights are relit, Sherry.

The town's city manager didn't know when service would be restored to all customers.
"There were no problems — just more of an inconvenience," Hylton said. "We are really fortunate this was not in the wintertime."

Hylton said the only services affected was hot water heaters and cook stoves that used natural gas.

A fiber optics work crew severed the steel line Thursday, which served as the sole source of natural gas to the town of 10,000 people.
For information, customers may call (800) 664-5463.
