4626 links
There seems to be a little confusion here regarding cross band repeaters and one directional links. In Westchester we have both being used. Westchester FDs early on were mostly using Low Band Frequencies such as 46.26,46.14,33.96mhz etc. in the 90s some departments began rebroadcasting low band traffic on UHF or VHF hence making a cross band repeater. You can transmit on a lets say the repeater pair is 453.56250 rx and 458.56250 tx. Transmitting on the input would be broadcasted on the low band freq. and vise versa. Now When Westchester County got licensed for their UHF TRS system, and hard pushed the agencies into using either an EMS or FD talk group, this gave Westchester The authority to regulate who and what is broadcasted over their system. Hence the Link, a link is usually a one direction receive only to a specific Talk Group. because you need a Specific ID to transmit on the highly regulated Talk Groups ,and the correct programming matrix, it is highly unlikely you will see a Bidirectional Link or a Cross band Repeater on the TRS system. Another note. The cross bands were put up to gain better reception for the pagers that only had an internal antenna, The TRS system has Better Coverage than the previous low band conventional system which, Almost every FD in Westchester had its own license for. That being said,There is a limited need for Repeaters. UHF has better penetration than the old low band system does anyway.
Btw, Thank God its not digital yet.
my two cents
