Lots of traffic on MAC 9. Sounds like it is getting messy down there.
Here are some of the updates our dispatchers have sent;
4/15 5:19 pm Wildland U/D: Crowley Co. Fire at 3,500 acres. Yesterday's fire at Fort Carson is now at 1,000 acres & Highway 115 is closed.
4/15 5:03 pm Crowley Co U/D: Rapid fire spread continues, structure protection now ordered for the Town of Sugar City.
4/15 4:25 pm Crowley Co U/D: One SEAT & One Heavy Air Tanker inbound now, M/A from surrounding counties. Mac9 is IC, Mac11 for West Ops, Mac12 for East Ops.
4/15 4:05 pm Crowley Co U/D: multiple structures on fire, evacuating the county jail. Report of a fire engine that drove off a burned out bridge w/medical enroute. Online O/F Mac 9, 10 & SE Net.

18:23 U/D air drops have been made, the south flank has slowed down at Lake Henery, East flank continues to spread. Mutual aid units from as far as Limon & Tri-County assisting. Strucutres still involved.
18:35 U/D now reported two fatalities in Crowley Co. No further info available.

These were taken about 3:00 PM today of the Crowley County fire. they have Lamar fire, Bent County, Kiowa Couty fire, La Junta Fire, Rocky Ford Fire, Manzy Fire, and Fowler fire up helping. they just called off eads fire from up there to cause they now have a fire in Haswell.

Two FF's killed this afternoon.
Crowley County U/D: KRDO is now reporting a double LODD when the fire truck fell into the burned out bridge, two fire fighters were killed, MNN is withholding there names and dept affliation.

CROWLEY COUNTY - NEWSCHANNEL 13 has confirmed the name of one firefighter killed while battling the raging wildfire in Ordway.
The family of Terry Devore tells us he and another firefighter were crossing a bridge while riding in a fire truck. The bridge collapsed, trapping the two men underneath.
The name of the second firefighter has not yet been released.

The two firefighters were killed when they drove their truck onto a bridge that had been burned by the fire. They were both Department of Corrections Officers.
Officials identified them as Sergeant Terry Davore, 29, and Officer John Schwartz, Jr., 38. They were volunteer firefighters with the Olney Springs Volunteer Fire Department.
Sergeant Davore began his career with the DOC in Dec. 2004. He had been involved with the Olney Springs Volunteer Fire Department for ten years. John Schwartz, Jr. joined the DOC in Dec. of 2007 and had recently joined the volunteer force.

Fire Chief Terry DeVore and Firefighter John Schwartz, Jr. of the Olney Springs Volunteer Fire Department were killed late yesterday afternoon while fighting the Ordway wildland fire. Chief DeVore and Firefighter Schwartz were killed in their fire apparatus while trying to cross a bridge over a drainage ditch about a mile west of Ordway. Due to heavy smoke conditions they were apparently unaware that the fire had already damaged or collapsed the bridge.
Both Chief DeVore, 30, and Firefighter Schwartz, 28, were volunteers with Onley Springs and worked full-time as correctional officers for the Colorado Department of Corrections at the Arkansas Valley Correctional Facility.
Chief DeVore is survived by his wife Jennifer and four children, ages 10 to 4. Chief DeVore's father, Bruce, is also a volunteer Firefighter with Onley Springs and was also involved in fighting the Ordway Fire. Firefighter Schwartz is the father of four boys, ages 4 to 16.
Gret Marais, 42, of Fort Benton, Montana, a U.S. Forest Service contract pilot was killed when his Single Engine Air Tanker (SEAT) crashed while fighting the wildland fire at Fort Carson. Pilot Marais crashed about 18:20 yesterday evening along Colorado 115 at mile marker 34 near Fort Carson. Marais worked for Aero Applicators, a Sterling Company that contracts aerial firefighting services to the U.S. Forest Service.

The CBI, in a memo to the Crowley County Sheriff's Office, determined that the fire started in two different places. The CBI says both fires were controlled burns that had been set before Tuesday and had not been completely extinguished. Strong winds spread the fire. The fire burned 8,900 acres before being contained Wednesday night.
The CBI says the fires were determined to be human caused, but no evidence of an intentional crime was found.
Ofc. John Schwartz, 38, and Sgt. Terry DeVore, 30, were killed when they drove their truck onto a 71-year-old wooden bridge that was destroyed by the wildfire. That bridge, State Highway 96 over the Numa Drain Canal, reopened Friday after crews worked overnight to build a temporary crossing.

About 200 people attended funeral services for Ofc. Schwartz at Fowler United Methodist Church Friday. At least half were state prison staff.
"He's the type of person that will, if you need any help, day or night, he will come over to you, help you, doesn't matter what it is," said Ofc. Jacques Wiggins.
Wiggins said one of Schwartz's proudest accomplishments was to work for the DOC. He also says Schwartz always wanted to be a volunteer firefighter.
A friend says Schwartz grew up in Fowler and lived outside Ordway. He leaves behind three boys, ranging in age from 6 to 16.
A joint memorial service for Ofc. Schwartz and Sgt. DeVore will be held at Crowley County High School Saturday at 10 a.m. The public is invited to attend.
A DOC spokesperson says DeVore's family will hold a small, private funeral sometime soon.
Flags across the state were lowered Friday after an order from Governor Bill Ritter (D-Colorado). They will stay at half-staff through Saturday.
