• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

You'd be better off going to Ebay and buying crystals for CB's there. Virtually any time you check over there, someone is selling the blue blister packed Radio Shack NOS crystal pairs. I bought a pair about a year ago for from a guy that had most of the 40 channel pairs available for $5. I doubt you can order a pair from a crystal company for that amount. I checked around the last year for buying mixer loop crystals to convert some 40 channel units to 10 meters. The prices for crystals were outrageous. Most of these companies don't even want to bother with you unless you purchase a batch order of the same frequency crystals and same holder. I used to deal with Jan a lot years ago. They were dependable, but not very flexible. If they didn't have any info on a rock, they wouldn't do it. You couldn't send them a sample crystal or a schematic and expect them to correlate specs from it like you could from Sentry or International. If Bowmar is still around, they were good and reasonable as was Marden. Most all CB crystals were the same and similar holder capacity and resonance, with the rx being .455 offset and virtually anything solid state was in a HC/25U holder. You shouldn't have any problem finding crystals.

Oh, just a thought, check online for Ken's Electronics. I still think he's in business. He was still selling loose CB crystals last time I checked.

Yup, still around, here's the link. You probably would do better on Ebay with postage included.

CB crystals

I have purchased many things from Ken's. He has an amazing amount of old parts. If you order from one of the few companies such as JAN, a pair can easily cost more than a new synthesized radio.
