Hello all,

just found this website. Might be a nice reprieve from QRZ.com, hopefully....

anyway, my question. I just finished homebrewing an interface cable for my v8000 2 meter rig based on an internet published schematic. I have tested it with some cable test software through the serial port, and the test reports a 100% pass through the comport. So, I have a "copy" of the CS-v8000 software, I connect my cable up to the port, and the radio, click connect, and I get an error message telling me to check the cable, port settings, and the revision number of the radio. The comport settings, baud rate etc. seem ok, and I even messed with them, but nothing helps. Anybody have any suggestions on fixing the problem or obtaining another "copy"......?

Windows? Run Hyperterminal on the port you think the cable is connected to. See if the radio talks to you. (I assume you've verified that the revision number of the radio is compatible with the software?)

Actually, I don't know where the revision number for the radio is located, how to find it. Thanks for the response, BTW, can you point me there?

No, I was justy repeating what the software told you. If the rev level isn't on the nameplate, it's probably time for a call to Icom to find out where to find it. (On a label on a ROM chip, maybe?)

Cloning Cable

The attached scamatic is an indusry standard RSR232 to TTL level conversion.

Use a stereo plug connect the ground to ground, and the "in out" to the center ring.

You and also use a Max232 IC connect pins 11, and 12 to the center ring of stereo plug and the IC power ground to ground of the the stereo plug.

I have used both and they both work fine.

Just got my USB cable. Drivers installed, what actual port settings are you guys using for this? I tried a bunch with no luck. Figured I'd stop fishing

I also have the same issue. I can plug in my cable to the laptop and receiver and launch the program but it too tells me to check the port, revision number, etc. I'm getting mad because I have never had this much issues programming a radio. I am using a usb cable I ordered from hamcity.com. Any ideas on how to get this to work?

I found that the RS232 cable (for another radio) asked for/required com1 and the USB cable (on my setup) asked for/required com3. Somebody on the Baofeng thread found he had to use com6.
You'll probably just have to try all of them. Good luck, just keep plugging on.
