CS800 mobile head mounting

I am thinking of putting my cs800d HEAD in the truck, do I need a magnet or just a piece of metal? Does anyone have experience with mounting the head? Suggestions? thinking of a rare earth magnet ...

Mine is mounted to a bracket with a bolt and washer.
