A safe ending...
As stated in the Loveland Reporter Herald:
A driver led a swarm of emergency vehicles into Loveland on Saturday night, crashed and ran before police caught him on a downtown sidewalk.
Michael Dezell, 33, of Longmont faces a host of charges as a result of the high-speed chase, according to the Colorado State Patrol.
Trooper Joy Grissom said Dezell caught a state patrolman’s attention south of Longmont at 9:27 p.m. when the 2007 four-wheel-drive Ford pickup he was driving was clocked going 71 in a 55 mph zone.
When State Patrol Cpl. Jeremy Miller tried to pull Dezell over on U.S. 287 near Isabelle Road, the man sped up, heading north at speeds reaching 100 mph.
The ensuing chase wound east on Colorado 52 to the Weld-Boulder county line road, north to Larimer County Road 12, back west to U.S. 287 and ended almost 20 minutes later in downtown Loveland on East Sixth Street between Lincoln and Cleveland avenues.
Officers had placed “stop sticks” to try to disable the truck’s tires near County Line Road and Pike Road in east Longmont. From that point until he lost control on Sixth Street, Dezell was driving on a flat front left tire.
At some point, both the tire and the rim flew off, and witnesses reported seeing the truck racing north past Campion, throwing a shower of sparks that looked like flames.
When the truck hit the curb and stopped, Dezell ran southwest. Officers converging from all sides caught him a block later at the northwest corner of Fifth Street and Cleveland Avenue.
Grissom said Dezell, who had a woman in the truck with him, faces charges of driving under the influence, felony vehicular eluding, reckless driving and reckless endangerment. Troopers were checking to see whether the truck was stolen.
Grissom said Dezell also was wanted on a Fort Collins warrant alleging failure to appear on a no-insurance charge, and his license had been revoked for nonpayment of child support.
