CSP - HP-1 vs. BC396XT

I have been using the following setup to monitor the CT State Police:

BC396XT (latest firmware) with a RS 800 MHz antenna
HP-1 (latest firmware) with a ScannerMaster back of set 800 MHz antenna

The 396XT seems to decode the CSP much better than the HP-1. Does anyone else out there have the same radios to compare or have any suggestions to offer up. It seems like the HP-1 is useless as most of the traffic from CSP is broken up despite a strong RSSI.

I have a 396XT and live in West Granby. I have a video that I made recently after its firmware update. Both before and after the update I always got an ERR between 0 and 5. Most of the time it is between 1 and 3. (Which both are perfect). I would say past 20 ERR is when the sound is starting to get annoying/harder to listen to.
