The last time I bought a scanner I had to decide between a crystal or 10 channel programmable. I just bought a PRO-96 and I am totally overwhelmed by the options, different types of trunking systems, etc. I have no idea about loading frequencies that are used for voice versus data or if they have to be linked to the voice channels somehow. I did load the CSP channels from the virtual folder that comes with the scanner. Once I did this, I instantly started received CSP communications so I know it is working. What I don't know is if the scanner is now receiving ALL of the channels that CSP uses. I know they have talk around channels, channels for their specialized units and so on. I found the page on this site that lists the frequencies they use and certainly I can just enter them but I am not sure if that is all I need to do.

I also downloaded the WIN96 software which seems very cool. I was able to figure most of the software out. I was wondering if there was a source for downloading the P96 files. I am specifically looking for one that would work for every possible channel that the CSP use.

I did scan this site for an answer to this prior to posting this question so I apoligize if I missed it somewhere.

You can download the CSP data from this web site using the Web Import function in Win96. Should have all the info you are looking for. You have to be a paid member of this site to do it. As little as $5.00 will usually work.
I have a Win96 file set up for SE CT if you want to send me a private message I can send it to you.

B.K.

Thanks for the info. The more I get back into this, the more confusing it gets. I did donate to the site and get access to the files. As I sit here and watch my scanner running, I see it stopping and reading out frequencies that I do not have programmed in. For example I just saw the scanner stop on 866.750, and the display read "Troop B Disp". But, when I look at the frequencies I have programmed into Bank 0, there is no 866.750. I guess it is not like the old days.

The scanner only uses the control channel. The control channel then tells the scanner what voice channel to goto. The voice channels do not need to be programed into the scanner, it only needs the control channel, it will find the correct voice channel from what it is told by the control channel.
