Hello over Christmas i'll be traveling to Shelton Ct - What zone or troop should I be monitoring on the CTSP system to for southwest ct area from the NY State line to the shelton area. Also what freq's are must have's to be monitoring in Southwest Ct.

Shelton is in Troop I but is adjacent to troop G. Troop A is also nearby. If you go to the Connecticut database on this site the frequencies and talkgroups for those troops are available there.

I am programming radios on Tuesday in Fairfield County traveling along the Merritt Parking from the State line to Shelton I should have troop A, I and J in the radio anything else ? Also does the state of Ct have a statewide channel like the NJ spen network for police.

Yes, they mostly patrol the Merrit (Rt. 15) and some of I-95 --mostly upstate.

Both the Merritt and I95 are patrolled regularly by the CT State Police. Local towns do not patrol either highway.

Local FD and EMS units are first responders to accidents on either road but I've never seen an instance where the local PD enforced speed limits or responded to accidents on either highway. In fact, it is unusual to see a local patrol car on these roads unless they are in a pursuit (in which case they ask for CTSP assistance) or are travelling from one town to another (and not just from or to an adjacent town).

In Westport, for example, many times I've heard the local police ask for authorization from dispatch to even get on I95.

Our police officers have to request permission from the shift commander to use I-95, which bisects our town.

There is no state law prohibiting local towns from enforcing laws on the highways, but most have enough to worry about outside of the highways.

Of course, this goes back and forth depending on who wants to have the bigger set of balls for the month. I know of one town that was doing enforcement for awhile up on 91. It didn't come to light until someone who got a ticket went to H to complain and found out that H didn't issue it. Troop then complained to the town. Chief told them to pound sand since they weren't doing any enforcement of the 100MPH+ speeders coming down it.

Then two months later, they stopped.

Then two months after that, it resumed.
