I have noticed more and more everyday that if I go to look at a camer where I hear about a accident (minor or not) CTDOT turns the cameras off. I thought they were not suppose to do this anymore? Why do they do it. We have a right to know whats going on. If we have to travel in that area we want to know what the traffic looks like. Not look at a black screen that says no video. It really makes me mad the this tool is there for us to use but they don't let us use it. If it was a fatel or something OK I can see where shutting the camera off would be called for. But a minor MVA....I mean come on. What a waste of our money if we can't even use it!

Perhaps a single camera can only service a maximum number of "clients" and the feed you're connecting to is a low priority one. Since it's a camera with activity (you indicated it's one with an MVA you heard about prior to your visit), the CTDOT monitors, local traffic reporters, and local media have taken all of the available connections to allow them to monitor and report on the status of that MVA.

Locally the media and traffic report companies pay a fee for camera access which most likely puts them near the head of the line when they want access. They also get better quality than the internet feeds provide. Our cameras also black out at times and I've seen the internet feed be blacked out at the same time that same camera is shown on the local news station's traffic coverage.

Yeah I was wondering if they did or not. I drive by it this morning coming back from MA. Looked like a mess!
