I have a radio shack pro-197 and scan the the viper system for cumberland county nc that has been rebanded what do I need to do to get back to scanning? Do I need to update the scanner firmware if so how? I;am going to download the frequencies from radio reference with arc500. I;am not very good at this kind of stuff so any help would be great thanks.

You need to two things:
-Enter control freqs EXACTLY 15 MHz lower than what you have currently.
-Enter the custom tables.
If you download from the RRDB you should be good to go. If you prefer to manually enter the data in arc500 the steps I listed above.is what you need to do. I don't remember if arc500 has options on custom tables; if it does there should be one for "800MHz reband" or something like that. If there isn't an option you'll need to enter the tables manually.
Assuming you have the latest firmware update before GRE folded, you should be OK.
