I've been listening to the OHP quite a bit lately, and heard something that piques my curiosity.

Several times recently an officer has called in a "rolling" stop, gives the tag, dispatch returns 28/29 info. Most of the time, the officer just says "clear, 10-8". So are they actually looking for someone/thing in particular, or just on random fishing expeditions? One time I heard it was very shortly after a bulletin about a stolen vehicle, so thought perhaps they had found one matching the description.

Also, I keep forgetting to ask - what does "triple-i" mean? I'd swear I knew at one point, and for the life of me can't remember...! :p

Close, "triple I" stands for Interstate Identification Index. It's a nationwide criminal "rap sheet" kept by the FBI.

I too have a question. This morning I heard a Tulsa trooper said he would be switching
over to "direct" Anyone know what "direct" is?

Direct is 855.9875 with a PL tone of 77.0 and the call is KNJA691

It is conventional simplex that is only 35 watts and does not go through a repeater. It is real popular statewide for surveilance and traffic enforcment with aircraft. Enjoy...

Its the liveblood of law enforcement

The rolling 28 catches a lot of wanted persons. Several departments are testing an automatic tag scanner that works from a camera mounted on the front bumper. It constantly runs tags against NCIC databases. When it gets a hit, it alerts the officer. I will say that I have been a victim of incorrect information on a 28. A Midwest City office followed me for several miles a couple weeks ago. I was in a rented car due to repairs at a dealership. My passenger even noticed an officer run a red light and burn through a school zone with kids and their lunch boxes and things. They finally got enough officers to pull me over. As the main officer approached, he turned back, yelled something to the other officers, who then sped off and left him alone. He walked up to the window and told me he had ran my tag for Oklahoma when the tag was from Ohio. It came up stolen. He noticed his error right away as he was about to make a felony take down. We laughed about it but my passenger made a big deal about the officers running the red light and speeding at a school zone. Midwest City must not have a policy of not initiating a chase during school commute hours as they were very prepared to start a chase right in the middle of the go-home time.

tpd had a try b4 you buy camera/tag reading device a few months back, it scans tags, and runs them all on its own and alerts officers when it gets a hit or expired tag, only a couple officers had it, was pretty cool.

LOL, you sure don't need it for expired tags around these parts!
