if this has been asked before i am sorry, i did not see it.
my question is can a d-star radio receive p-25 transmissions? not encripted of course.
in my reading i see that both formats are similar, but not the same.
it would be great if they did would save me some money listening to simplex p-25 stuff in the area.
but........ i'm sure i am not that lucky.

No sir, The D-Star radios can not receive the Motorola P25 transmissions they use a different type of digital transmission the Icom's D-Star codecs.

DStar uses GMSK protocol, where as P25 uses C4FM
